Appetizing Aji

Japanese Nails

If you saw my Instagram post yesterday, I went to the grand opening of Aji Dori in Sacramento. And never one to miss a good nail opportunity, I did a mani to match the occasion.

Asian Nails

Polish Used:
  • Morgan Taylor - Don't Break My Corazon
  • Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Black to Black
  • Bundle Monster - Nation's Treasure
  • Born Pretty Store stamping polish - white
  • Base and top coats
Other Supplies:
  • Bundle Monster stamping plate - BM-XL155 (Japanese pattern)
  • Born Pretty stamping plate - BPL-025 (cat)
  • Stamper
  • Nail art brush

The Japanese characters on this mani means Aji Dori, which is the name of the restaurant I went to, but this design works for any Japanese words. To create this look:
  1. Apply a red base color.
  2. Use a gold stamping polish to add a Japanese print to each nail.
  3. Add black dry brushing, starting from the tip to the base.
  4. Use a nail art brush and white stamping polish to paint Japanese characters on the index, middle, and ring fingers (possibly pinky depending on the length of the word). Using stamping polish is helpful when painting any nail art in white, because the polish has better coverage.
  5. Add a maneki neko cat to the base of the thumb. First, stamp the cat image with black polish. Let it dry on the stamper, then fill in the image with white. Apply a layer of clear top coat over the image (still on the stamper). Once dry, peel the image off, and it can be applied to the nail with some top coat.
