I love plaid in the fall. Plaid shirts, plaid scarves, and of course plaid nails! I've done plaid stamped nails before, but I decided to do some hand-painted ones this time.
I received these gold cross studs from LadyQueen in exchange for an honest review. The studs are 3mm in diameter, come in gold and silver, and you get 20! I chose the gold since if you can't tell from most of my designs, I love gold! The cross shape is nice because you can make it look like a "+" or an "x" depending on which way you rotate it. The studs are slightly curved, which is amazing! That is one of my biggest complaints about most studs...the edges stick up and get caught on things (especially shapes like this). But that is not the case with these studs. I also like the small size, so the embellishments can be a subtle touch, or you can put a lot on and they aren't overwhelming.

I was torn between doing a blue plaid or a red plaid. I've seen a lot of red plaid nails lately, so I decided to be different. And I love blue :) To create this look:
- Apply a navy blue base color.
- Use a nail art brush to paint thick crisscross stripes. The Limelight polish is a little transparent, which is what you want in this case. First, paint vertical stripes in different locations on each nail. Then add the horizontal (or vice versa). Add a little more polish to the square section where the lines overlap.
- Add a thin grey stripe down the center of each line.
- Use gold polish to add a solid horizontal line between the green stripes. On the right side of all the horizontal green stripes, add a dashed line. These nail look great like this without the embellishments too.
- Add a gold cross stud to the center of the green squares.
