All Smiles

Smiley Face Nails

Day 20 of the Bundle Monster Challenge is "Happiness."  At first I was debating if I should paint something that makes me happy.  But then I decided to go with a more literal approach and went with happy smiley faces :) Plus I had a smiley face fimo cane, and I never use my fimo cane arsenal enough.

Polish, fimo canes, studs

Polish Used:
  • Sinful Colors Professional Nail Polish Enamel - Let's Meet
  • Sinful Colors Professional Nail Polish Enamel - Frenzy
  • Wet N Wild Shine Nail Color - Black Crème
Other Supplies:

If you've never used fimo canes before, you have to slice it with a razor to get just a tiny disc to place on your nails.  To create this look:
  1. Apply the base colors.  I'm using Let's Meet and Frenzy by Sinful ColorsLet's Meet is a bright yellow that looks exactly like what a smiley face should. The purple/blue glitter was a nice contrasting color to add some pop against the competing bright yellow.
  2. Create the concentric circle details.  Place paper reinforcements on the thumb (2) and middle finger (1), and then paint with black polish.  You should remove the reinforcements before the polish dries so it won't leave a hard edge.
  3. Paint the smiley face with black polish and a short, thin nail brush.
  4. For the stripes on the pinky, apply 3 strips of striping tape, then paint with black and immediately removed the tape.
  5. Adhere the jumble of 3D elements on the middle finger.  Coat the nail in top coat, and place various crystals and studs while the polish was wet.  You can also use glue since there are so many pieces to add.  Then cover with lots of top coat.
