The Vampire Diaries

I confess...watching Vampire Diaries is one of my guilty pleasures.  The new seasons starts tonight, so here are some Vampire Diaries inspired nails featuring a pentagram, vampire lips, the hunter's symbol/tattoo, the Vampire Diaries logo, and some spikes.

I didn't get in to the show when it first started.  I watched the pilot episode, and then felt the beginning was very Twilight.  High school girl, brooding "17 year old" attractive vampire boy, girl discovers boy is a vampire, etc., so I didn't watch after the pilot.  Four seasons later, I was looking for a new show to stream on Netflix and decided to give it another try.  I'm glad I did. 

Polish Used:

• Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - White On
• Wet n Wild - Black Creme
• Wet n Wild - Red Red

Other Supplies:

• Fine detailing nail art brush
• Silver spikes
• Krazy Glue
• Base and top coats

This design has some detailed painting that requires a steady hand, but they are still pretty "simple" in a way.  The hunter's tattoo for example, looks complex, but it is just a bunch of lines.  Very fine lines, but lines nonetheless.  To create this look:

1. Apply the base colors - thumb, middle, and ring in black, and index and pinky in white.
   
2. Use a nail art brush and black polish to paint a pentagram on the index finger.  Start by painting the outer ring, then paint a star in the middle (be sure the point is up).
   
3. Paint a "VD" on the pinky with black polish, and add a drop of blood off the "V" in red polish.
   
4. Using a nail art brush and white polish, paint the hunter's tattoo on the ring finger.  Start with a horizontal line, then an "X" to make all the spokes.  Then paint all the small lines/shapes at the end of each spoke.
   
5. Paint vampire lips on the middle finger.  Use red polish and a nail art brush to paint the lips.  Then add fangs with white polish.
   
6. Glue a vertical line of silver spikes down the center of the thumb.
