I never get tired of mermaid nails, so when I saw mermaids as a theme on @clairestelle8challenge for #clairestelle8august, that was reason enough for me to do one.
Mermaids make me think of blues, gold, and iridescent scales. I received this Chameleon Nail Polish Brocade Series Glitter Sequins Nail Lacquer Varnish from Born Pretty Store in exchange for an honest review. This polish comes in four different colors, and I chose Heart of Ocean, which has blue/green iridescent flakes. It is a clear topper polish, so you can add it over any color. Applying the polish over dark colors will make the flakes stand out more, but it looks just as magical over lighter colors.

I wanted to create a mermaid nail that used something other than stamping, so today's mani uses tulle. To create this look:
- Apply an iridescent white base color like Snow Way!
- Use a piece of tulle and a makeup sponge to dab on iridescent blue polish. Make sure the tulle is pulled tight against the nail, so the pattern will show up.
- Repeat the process with gold polish.
- Use a makeup sponge to apply Heart of Ocean. This method will apply a large amount of the iridescent flakes, without having to apply a million coats of polish.
- Apply small pieces of gold foil to the tips of each nail.
- On the base of the ring fingers, glue a gold seashell stud. Then fill in the surrounding area with iridescent clear and blue rhinestones, pearls, and a gold stud.
The lighting on this photo is a little dark, but I wanted to show the iridescent flakes. It is hard to see the iridescent flakes in bright light over this light polish color.
This is so beautiful!
