Brilliant Blue Butterflies

Butterfly Nail Art

This is my first attempt at gradient stamping.  I need to mix the gradient a little better, but overall I like how it turned out.  Blue butterflies over a grey base color with a matte top coat make a more subdued wintery look, which is perfect for right now.

Nail Polish
Polish Used:
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Wet Cement
  • Sinful Colors - Charmed
  • Julep - Lacey-Bombshell
  • Ulta - Faded Blues
  • Base and top coats
  • Matte top coat
Other Supplies:
  • Bundle Monster stamping plate - BM-205 (full butterfly background)
  • Bundle Monster stamping plate - BM05 (butterfly duo)
  • Rubber stamper
  • Toothpick

I chose to do a matte finish, but you could use a regular top coat if you prefer the shine.  To create this look:
  1. Apply a light grey base color.

  2. Apply two coats of Charmed on the ring finger.

  3. Create a gradient on the stamping plate.  Add a stripe of each color to the top and bottom of the full butterfly design (BM-205), then use a toothpick to swirl the colors together in the middle.

  4. Scrape off the excess polish as usual, and stamp on each nail.

  5. Use Lacey to stamp the butterfly duo (BM05) on the ring finger.

  6. Finish off with a coat of matte top coat.
