Colors of the Wind

Pocahontas Nail Art

"Do you paint with all the colors of the wind?"  I do :)  The sixth nail design in my Disney series is Pocahontas.  I decided to paint Meeko, Pocahontas' raccoon, for a cute woodsy look.

The polish, Broken Arrow (pictured third), is from the Fiery Spirit set by Beautifully Disney.

If you remember, Meeko is the one who finds the compass, which is the broken arrow from Pocahontas' dream.  So that was my other reason for painting him over Pocahontas.  For the other nails, I did the swirling turquoise and pink leaves with the gold balls that fly around when something magical happens.  The colors of the leaves also pair nicely with the tan/yellow color of the polish.  The top of the bottle has a little gold leaf, so I have the bottle tie in again as well.
Nail Polish

Polish Used:
  • Beautifully Disney Fiery Spirit - Broken Arrow
  • Sally Hansen Triple Shine - Dive In
  • Wet n Wild - Frosted Fuchsia
  • Orly - Luxe
  • Base and top coats
Other Supplies:
  • Acrylic paint - black, white, and pink
  • Nail art brush
  • 2mm gold round studs

Since there are so many fine black lines in the Meeko painting, I decided to paint black first, and fill in the colors for a reverse lining effect.  To create this look:
  1. Apply the tan base color, Broken Arrow, to all nails.

  2. Paint Meeko on the middle finger with acrylic paint.
    • Paint the entire shape of Meeke in black.
    • Using a medium grey, paint the top of his head and the sides of his body.
    • Paint his mask markings with a darker grey.
    • With a light grey, fill in the rest of Meeko's face and chest, leaving lines for his mouth, and paint the rims of his ears.
    • Add a pink tongue to his mouth.

  3. Use a nail art brush to paint leaves on the other nails, using Dive In and Frosted Fuchsia.  Dot little spots of gold using Luxe.

  4. Add gold studs to the leaf design.
