Pearlescent Palm Trees

Pearlescent Palm Tree Nail Art

I've been wanting to try mixing my own polish for a while, so I finally gave it a shot and made this pearlescent polish (although its more like an iridescent top coat).  It reminded me of pearls, the ocean, and the beach, so I went with a palm tree look.

Custom Polish
There are a lot of techniques to making your own polish, but I just did a super fast and simple version...I mixed powered eyeshadow with clear top coat.  Ta-da!  Since I didn't add things like polish thinner, emollients, and whatnot, the eyeshadow does settle to the bottom eventually, but if you shake it up it is good as new.  I mixed an iridescent white shadow, and a bright blue to make my polish color.  Both eyeshadows are from Jesse's Girl and can be found at the drug store.  The colors don't have names or I would list them.  Since I mixed the eyeshadow with clear top coat instead of a colored polish, my polish doesn't have enough pigment to use alone, so it is more of an iridescent top coat as I mentioned before.  I probably could have added more shadow to make it more opaque, but I didn't have polish thinner, so it would have been too clumpy.

I painted my polish over a white base color for the current look, but I'm interested to see how it would turn out over a darker color.

Nail Polish
Polish Used:
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - White On
  • Bundle Monster Stamping Lacquer - Black Noir
  • My own mix
  • Base and top coats
Other Supplies:
  • Bundle Monster stamping plate - BM-510 (palm tree)
  • Rubber stamper

Even if you don't mix your own polish, you can substitute any iridescent polish for this design.  To create this look:
  1. Apply a white base color.

  2. Apply a few coats of iridescent polish.

  3. Use black stamping polish to stamp palm trees (BM-510) onto each nail.

Here's another shot from an alternate angle.  It was hard to fully capture the iridescent quality of the polish.
