Godzilla!

Godzilla Nails

Another movie mani.  I painted these for the release of the new Godzilla movie earlier in the summer.  I love movies, so I wanted to combine that with my love of nail art.  For Godzilla, I based the design off of the movie posters and paraphilia I saw online.  The spines on his back are supposed to spell out "Godzilla," but it got a little smudgey so it only kind of looks like that in an abstract way.

Nail Polish
Polish Used:
  • Ulta - Mud Pie
  • Miss Kiss - Chrome Crazy
  • Wet n Wild - Black Crème
  • Red paint or polish
Other Supplies:
  • Bundle Monster plate BM-418
  • Nail brush
  • Matte top coat
  • Base coat

I double stamped the reptile scale nails - first in silver, then grey/brown on top - so the silver would show through like highlights.  With the black background, it gives the scales some added depth.  Here's how to create the look:
  1. Apply the base colors.  The thumb should be in Mud Pie by Ulta.  I picked that polish because it is a greyish brown and has a good reptile feel to it.  Paint the rest of the nails black.
  2. Paint Godzilla on the thumb using a nail brush and black polish.
  3. Stamp the reptile scale print on the black nails using Chrome Crazy.
  4. Using red paint/polish and a nail brush, paint the Asian characters on top of Godzilla.
  5. Stamp the reptile scale print a second time, using Mud Pie. Try to stamp the same design, but slightly off so that the silver will show through the cracks.
  6. Apply a couple layers of matte top coat.  At first I just used a regular clear top coat, but it looked too shiny for the reptile feel.  The matte makes the scales look more natural and earthy.
