Anchors Away

Nautical Nail Art

I've been wanting to do a nautical nail for a while, so I figured I better hurry up before summer is over.  I kept the look navy blue and white with a couple gold accents.

Nail Polish
Polish Used:
  • Bundle Monster - Angelic White
  • Ulta - Moody Blues
  • Julep - Gianna
Other Supplies:
  • Nail art brush
  • Nail tape
  • Masking tape
  • 2 mm flat gold round studs

If you don't have nail vinyl stripes of different sizes, you can make your own with masking tape as I did here.  Just cut two pieces, one that is slightly thicker than the nail tape, and another that is a little thicker than the first.  Here's how to create the look:
  1. Apply the base colors.  The middle finger should be white, and the rest in Moody Blues.

  2. Apply a couple coats of Gianna to the pinky. The gold glitter polish has triangle and line shapes.
  3. Apply nail tape to the index and ring fingers.  For the index finger, just put two strips of nail tape on the tip.  For the ring finger, use the masking tape and nail tape to make progressively smaller stripes with the larger on the tip.

  4. Paint white polish over the entire ring finger, and above the second strip of tape on the ring finger.  Then immediately remove the tape.

  5. Using a nail art brush and Moody Blues, paint an anchor on the middle finger.
  6. Apply two flat gold round studs on the side of the index finger, above the stripes.  This is to look like buttons.
