Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge Nail Art

Nothing is more iconic about San Francisco than the Golden Gate Bridge.  I love when you can see that bright red bridge peaking through the fog, so that is what I painted here.  I thought I'd take a break from all the stamping to do some detailed freehand painting.

Tomorrow I'm off to San Francisco.  Normally, it would be a fun trip.  My dad is from there, so we would always go visit my grandma and sight see with my aunts and uncles.  Sadly, my grandma recently passed away, so we are going for her memorial.  My nail designs for today and tomorrow will be dedicated to her.

Nail Polish

Polish Used:
  • Wet n Wild - French White Crème
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Wet Cement
Other Supplies:
  • Red and black acrylic paint
  • Fine detailing nail art brush
  • Makeup sponge
  • Base and top coats

This look has some advanced freehand painting...advanced nail artists only. All the suspensions on the bridge are very fine.  To create this look:
  1. Apply a white base color.

  2. Using the wet makeup sponge technique, apply a grey and white gradient to each nail.  This is going to be the San Francisco fog.

  3. Using a fine detailing brush and red acrylic paint, paint the bridge to span across all four nails.  Start with the tower on the middle finger, then paint the road part of the brides, and the suspension cables last.

  4. Mix a little black paint into the red to create a darker red.  Add shadows to the bridge.

I decided to try and paint matte coat over the design since it seems more "foggy."  You can't really tell too much of a difference in this pic, but I like it better.

    1. Thank you. It was a foggy day that day, just like my nails, but it was nice to spend time with family.
